*Common Types of Dog Trainers*
Maybe you just know about 2 diferent methods;
*Click & Treat Trainers
*Dominance Dog Trainers
*Motivational Dog Trainers
The Click & Treat Trainers are those who lure dogs to do something by offering a food or toy reward. this way often choose not to do what’s asked because they don’t think the reward is of a high enough value to them. These dogs can end up being food and toys obsessed - often pushy and dominant dogs.
My experience taught me treats for obedience DOES NOT work especially in times of life or death. If a dog finds something more interesting across the street, that treat (bribe) will mean nothing to them. The will head right across that street to get what they want. There is no second chance when that car comes by. I believe your voice is the most important. We donºt bribe our kids to listen to us because that is what they are suppose to do. Same goes for our dogs.
The Dominance Dog Trainers use intimidation or force their dogs to do what they want. These are “yank and crank” trainers who often teach owners to roll their dogs on their backs and often growl at them. Some even use physical force like kneeing he dog in the chest.
The bottom line is with enough force a dog can be trained to do almost anything.The problem with the dominant trainer is that the dog seldom seems stable and comfortable with the handler. Dogs with sensitive temperaments can be ruined with these methods. These methods create fear and mistrust because the dog never knows when they might be punished and you never find a dog walking proud in your side with this method. I don´t believe in breaking a dogs spirit.
My Method (Motivational Dog Trainer)
I have always used pawsitive, motivational techniques my method works because I use always what is more instituive for dogs so become natural for them to preform what I intent without screaming or frustration and I will explain you all psicology beyond every action that will make sense for you the reasons you don't find many dog trainers using my tecnicks is because takes much longer to master diferent from the other 2 methods. Throughout the learning phase, and especially for young pups, we utilize toys, praise, petting and sometimes food (when it has nothing to do with obedience or a life threatening situation). I believe in all my techniques and always see results with them. Basically you reward good behavior with praise therefore showing the dog it is fun to work with you, and simply redirect bad behavior (they will either choose to be comfortable or uncomfortable). I don´t use any special harness.
How I work is I come to your home once a week and teach you and your dog something new. I feel the dog learns better in its own enviorment. You have that following week to practice that lesson (normally it takes 5 days for a dog to learn something new). If you do your homework everyday it will be a lot easier because your dog will not only know how to do a new command that makes you and them both proud, but that time you take to work with your dog builds a stronger bond between you two.
